The 651289 is the L: the laminator that applies a clear or holographic patch to each printed card.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt uses IDP's instant direct heating, so there is no warm-up and no power spent keeping the head hot on standby. It laminates one side at about 19 seconds a card with 0.6 or 1.0 mil film, 500 cards per roll, loaded in its own drawer-type film cartridge (the printer's ribbon cartridge does not fit it). It has an LCD with buttons, a physical lock on the film and a Kensington slot. With a hybrid flipper ahead of it, both sides of a card can be laminated. IDP's SMART-70 films include the 659123 clear patch and the 659121 Globe Flags hologram patch.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIDP's manual describes this exact upgrade: start with an input hopper and printer, then add the laminator when you need lamination. It goes in the row after the printer (or after the flipper), runs as a slave to the printer, and connects with the red communication cable.
