What Are PVC Cards?
PVC is standard plastic and the most common blank card material. It prints cleanly, costs the least, and handles everyday office, school, and event badges with ease. For most printing jobs, a stack of standard CR80 30-mil blank PVC cards is all you need.
PVC also comes in versions for specific needs, such as cards with a signature panel, a magnetic stripe, or an adhesive back for sticker-style badges.
What Are Composite Cards?
Composite cards blend PVC with polyester (PET). That mix makes them more rigid and far more heat-resistant, which matters for printers that run hot. They cost more than plain PVC, but they hold up better under heavy use. A box of composite cards is a smart pick when durability is the priority.
Key point: Retransfer and lamination printers run at higher heat. Composite cards resist warping under that heat, while plain PVC can curl.

Card Thickness and Size
Most ID badges use the CR80 size, which is the same footprint as a credit card. The common thickness is 30 mil, sturdy enough to clip into a badge holder or run through a slot punch. Thinner 10-mil cards are usually reserved for adhesive or stick-on applications rather than standalone badges.
Matching Cards to Your Printer
