Collection: Breakaway Lanyards

What is a breakaway lanyard?

A breakaway lanyard looks and wears like a standard lanyard but includes a discreet safety clasp at the neck. Under a sharp pull (for example, if it catches on equipment or is pulled during movement), the clasp pops open to minimize risk, then snaps back together for continued use.

Build Your Setup

• Attachments: Choose metal swivel hooks, bulldog clips, split rings, J-hooks, or strap clips to match your badge holder (rigid, vinyl, or slot-punched cards).
• Quick-release buckle: Optional detachable buckle at chest height for removing your badge without taking the lanyard off.
• Add a reel: Pair a retractable badge reel for tap-and-go access at doors and turnstiles while retaining the safety of a neck breakaway.
• Holders and accessories: Protect credentials with rigid holders (AC-915, AH-150, B-Holder), add RFID-blocking options where policy allows (AH-210, EK 10943), and improve role visibility with badge buddies (standard or custom).

Customization and Branding

• Add your logo, department, or security messaging; match brand or role colors; choose widths and materials for comfort and print area.
• Typical production time for custom breakaway lanyards is about 10–14 business days after artwork approval, depending on method and quantity.

Breakaway Lanyards Frequently Asked Questions

Are breakaway lanyards required?Requirements vary by organization, but breakaway is commonly mandated in healthcare, education, manufacturing, and public-facing roles to reduce snag risk.

Will the breakaway clasp open during normal use?Quality breakaway clasps are designed to stay closed during everyday wear and release only under a sharp pull.

Can I use a retractable reel with a breakaway lanyard?Yes. Many teams pair a reel with a breakaway lanyard, or choose an integrated lanyard + reel combo for convenience.

What attachment should I choose?Swivel hooks pair well with slot-punched cards and most holders; bulldog clips work with badges that don’t have a slot; strap clips thread through a slot or keyhole.

Can you match our brand colors and print both sides?Yes. Share your brand guidelines and we’ll recommend the best print method for your design and quantity.
