Visitor badges that expire on their own

Two-part system: This badge front is not a full solution. A compatible badge back is required for use.

The TEMPbadge T2015 TIMEjet is a 1-day self-expiring visitor badge front, 1 15/16 x 2 13/16 inches, that prints in full color on standard inkjet printers (part number T2015).

How it works

The badge fronts come 2-up on 4 x 6 inch sheets. Print visitor information and graphics, then press the printed front onto a TEMPbadge badge back to activate it. The timer runs overnight, about 10-15 hours, and a visible expiration pattern appears on the badge so it cannot be reused the next day.

These are badge fronts only. Pair them with TEMPbadge badge backs, available in adhesive and clip-on styles, to complete the badge.

How it works

The color builds until the badge reads expired

Once the badge is activated, dye migrates at a steady rate and the expiring area shades from white to pink to red. These are the actual TEMPbadge lab shade charts; the dashed box marks the recommended expiration time.

One-day expiring badge color change by hour

Times are approximate. The timer is chemical: warmth and humidity speed it up, cool dry air slows it down.

Good to know

Expiration times are guidelines, not exact clocks. The timer is chemical and made for indoor use: warmer or more humid air runs it faster, cooler and drier air runs it slower. A 1-Day badge can expire in as little as 10 hours.

Frequently asked questions

Are these badges in stock?
Most TEMPbadge items on our site ship shortly after the order is placed. However, many items are made to order by the factory and typically take about 8 weeks, because the chemical timer performs best when fresh. Made-to-order items are marked on the product page. Contact us for current lead times.
How long does the badge take to expire?
The 1-day timer runs overnight, about 10-15 hours after activation on a badge back. A visible expiration pattern appears so the badge cannot be reused the next day.
Can the badges be reused?
No. Once a front is pressed onto a badge back, the chemical timer cannot be stopped or reset. Each badge is single use, which is what makes the system secure.
What else do I need?
A TEMPbadge badge back for each badge. Backs are available in adhesive and clip-on styles. You also need a standard inkjet printer for the 4 x 6 inch sheets.
Do temperature and humidity affect the timer?
Yes. The expiration is driven by a chemical timer, so warm and humid conditions make it run somewhat faster and cool, dry conditions slow it down. The stated times are approximate.
