IDP 653544 300 dpi Replacement Thermal Print Head for SMART-81 Printers

The IDP 653544 is the 300 dpi replacement thermal print head for the 300 dpi SMART-81 models (81S, 81D and 81DS) retransfer card printers. The head heats the color ribbon to transfer the image onto retransfer film, which the printer then fuses onto the card, so a worn or damaged head shows up as lines or voids across every card.

You can replace it yourself following the SMART-81 user manual. After fitting the new head, enter its serial number and resistance value in IDP's printer configuration utility so the printer calibrates to it. SMART-81 printers carry IDP's lifetime print head warranty, so check with IDP technical support before buying a head for a printer still in warranty. Match the resolution to your printer: this is not interchangeable with the 653837 600 dpi head for the HD models.
