IDP 654138 Replacement Thermal Print Head for SMART-52 Printers

The IDP 654138 is the replacement thermal print head for IDP SMART-52S, SMART-52D and SMART-52L direct-to-card printers. IDP's troubleshooting guide points to a damaged or scratched head when print defects remain after you check the ribbon and clean the head.

The SMART-52 manual gives the replacement steps. Before fitting the new head, enter its serial number and resistance, both printed on its label, under Change Head in the SMART Utility. Turn the printer off and let the old head cool, since it is very hot after printing; it releases from a hook on the top cover. Afterward, adjust the print position and densities. The SMART-52L's laminator uses a separate laminate head (651393).
