The IDP SMART-31R is a rewritable card printer. Instead of printing with a ribbon, it writes onto rewritable thermochromic cards with heat, and the same card can be erased and rewritten again and again. It is built for cards that get reissued with new information often, where reusing the card saves on blank cards and ribbons. IDP calls it eco-friendly rewritable printing.
It shares the compact SMART-31 body: cards feed automatically from an 80-card hopper and are rewritten on one side edge to edge at 300 dpi, up to 300 cards per hour (about 12 seconds per card). No ribbon is installed, so there are no ribbon rolls to stock; print darkness is set with one total density control in the driver.
This is the print-only configuration with USB. It prints only on rewritable thermochromic cards, not standard PVC; for full-color photo IDs choose the SMART-31S or SMART-31D. Encoding options for the SMART-31 series are added from the upgrades in the buy box; ask us to confirm the right encoder for your rewritable cards. IDP's SMART IDesigner card design software is included free (Windows, download). If you design on a Mac or print from a bigger database, ID-ALL is the step up; it supports IDP SMART printers on Windows and Mac.
