Overview

Visitor badges that expire on their own

Two-part system: This badge back is not a full solution. A compatible badge front is required for use.

The Genuine TEMPbadge T4103A is a 2 1/8 x 3 13/16 inch thermal-printable adhesive visitor badge with a dedicated round spot expiration area, sold in a box of 1,000.

How it works

Print the visitor name, photo, or other information on the badge with a direct thermal printer, then apply a TIMEspot expiring indicator to the round spot area to start the timer. The indicator develops its pattern as time passes, so an expired badge is obvious at a glance. TIMEspot indicators are available in half-day (about 4-6 hours), 1-day (overnight, about 10-15 hours), and 7-day (about 4-7 days) versions.

A direct thermal printer and TIMEspot expiring indicators, sold separately. The badge itself is the printable base of the two-part system.

How it works

The color builds until the badge reads expired

Once the badge is activated, dye migrates at a steady rate and the expiring area shades from white to pink to red. These are the actual TEMPbadge lab shade charts; the dashed box marks the recommended expiration time.

Times are approximate. The timer is chemical: warmth and humidity speed it up, cool dry air slows it down.

Good to know

Expiration times are guidelines, not exact clocks. The timer is chemical and made for indoor use: warmer or more humid air runs it faster, cooler and drier air runs it slower. A 1-Day badge can expire in as little as 10 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How long until the badge expires?
It depends on the TIMEspot indicator you apply. Half-day indicators expire in about 4-6 hours, 1-day indicators expire overnight in about 10-15 hours, and 7-day indicators expire in about 4-7 days. The timer starts when the dot is applied.
Can the badges be reused?
No. The badge is a single-use adhesive visitor badge, and the TIMEspot chemical timer cannot be stopped or reset once applied.
What else do I need?
A direct thermal printer to print visitor information and TIMEspot expiring indicators to start the timer. Both are sold separately.
What printers work with this badge?
Prints on any direct thermal printer that accepts this media size and does not require proprietary consumables. Printers that only run their own chipped or coded labels, such as the Dymo 550 series, will not accept this stock. Brother QL versions of TEMPbadge media are sized specifically for Brother QL series printers.
Do temperature or humidity affect the timer?
Yes. TIMEspot indicators use a chemical timer, so warm or humid conditions make it run somewhat faster and cool, dry conditions slow it down. Store unused supplies in a cool, dry place.
What does a box of 1,000 mean?
Ordering a quantity of 1 means you receive one box of 1,000 badges.
Are these badges in stock?
Most TEMPbadge items on our site ship shortly after the order is placed. However, many items are made to order by the factory and typically take about 8 weeks, because the chemical timer performs best when fresh. Made-to-order items are marked on the product page. Contact us for current lead times.
