Overview

Visitor badges that expire on their own

Two-part system: This badge back is not a full solution. A compatible badge front is required for use.

The Genuine TEMPbadge 05864 is a 4 x 2 1/4 inch direct thermal visitor badge with a printed STOP sign where the expiring spot goes, supplied 250 to a roll.

How it works

Print the visitor name on the badge, then press a TIMEspot expiring spot over the printed STOP sign. The spot covers the STOP while the badge is valid, and its chemical timer starts as soon as it is applied. When the time is up the spot clears and the STOP sign shows through, so an expired badge reads as a stop sign from across a room.

A direct thermal printer that takes this label size. The roll is supplied with matching expiring spots, 250 badges and 250 spots.

How it works

The color builds until the badge reads expired

Once the badge is activated, dye migrates at a steady rate and the expiring area shades from white to pink to red. These are the actual TEMPbadge lab shade charts; the dashed box marks the recommended expiration time.

Times are approximate. The timer is chemical: warmth and humidity speed it up, cool dry air slows it down.

Good to know

Expiration times are guidelines, not exact clocks. The timer is chemical and made for indoor use: warmer or more humid air runs it faster, cooler and drier air runs it slower. A 1-Day badge can expire in as little as 10 hours.

Frequently asked questions

What else do I need?
TIMEspot expiring indicator dots, sold separately. The badge back provides the STOP sign artwork and write-on area; the dot provides the timer.
How long until the badge expires?
That depends on the dot you apply. Half-day dots expire in about 4 to 6 hours, 1-day dots overnight in about 10 to 15 hours, and 7-day dots in about 4 to 7 days.
Can badges be reused?
No. Once a dot is applied its chemical timer starts and the color change cannot be reversed, so uncollected badges cannot be reused.
Do temperature or humidity affect the timer?
Yes. Expiration is driven by a chemical timer, so warm or humid conditions develop the color somewhat faster and cool, dry conditions slow it down. The times listed are approximate.
What does box of 1,000 mean?
This product comes in packs of 1,000 badge backs. Ordering a quantity of 1 means you will receive one box of 1,000 badge backs.
Are these badges in stock?
