About this card

The HID iCLASS 2124 is the high-memory dual-technology card: a 13.56 MHz iCLASS chip carrying 32k bits (4K bytes), partitioned 16k/16 plus 16k/1, alongside a 125 kHz HID Prox antenna in one composite body. One badge works on both reader types, and there is room on the smart chip for more than door access.

That combination suits a particular situation: a site migrating from 125 kHz Prox that also wants the new credential to carry additional applications — cashless vending, a biometric template, logical access, a third-party system — each in its own protected application area. If you need the dual technology but only door access, the iCLASS 2120 with 2k memory does that for considerably less.

The programming option decides whether the 125 kHz side is encoded at all: some configurations programme both technologies, others leave the Prox side blank for an iCLASS SE encoder. Migrating from an existing Prox system means you want both programmed, and you will need your existing Prox format, facility code and card range as well as your iCLASS details. The configurator only asks for the 125 kHz details when the option you pick actually uses them.

Composite by construction, so it takes lamination and retransfer, or high definition (HDP), printing without warping.

Frequently asked questions

Why would I buy a dual-technology card?
Migration. If your building runs 125 kHz HID Prox readers today and you are moving to 13.56 MHz iCLASS, a dual-technology card lets you reissue every badge once and then swap readers a door at a time, instead of running two sets of credentials side by side.
Do I need the 32k version, or will the 2120 do?
If the card only has to open doors, the 2120 with 2k memory does exactly the same job for considerably less. Choose the 2124 when the smart chip also has to carry other applications, each in its own protected area: cashless vending, a biometric template, logical access, or a third-party system.
Does the 125 kHz side get encoded too?
That depends on the programming option you choose, and it is the most important choice on this page. Some options program both technologies; others program the iCLASS side and leave the 125 kHz side blank for an iCLASS SE encoder. If you are migrating an existing Prox population you want both programmed. The configurator only asks for the 125 kHz details when the option you picked actually uses them.
What information do I need to have ready?
For the iCLASS side: your card format, facility or site code, and starting card number. If the 125 kHz side is being programmed, you also need your existing Prox format, facility code and card range. Send us two or three existing cards if you are not sure and we will read them.
What is the minimum order and how are quantities counted?
The minimum is 100 cards in increments of 100. Custom printed artwork raises the minimum to 500. Every run is made to order and encoded to your exact specification.
