The IDP SMART-70 is a modular, high-capacity ID card printer. Each part of the system (input hopper, printer, flipper, laminator, output hopper) is its own station that lines up with the next, so the printer can grow with your program. This SMART-70DLO is the fully built system: 500-card input hopper, printer module, hybrid flipper, laminator module and 500-card output hopper, for unattended dual-sided printing and lamination of large batches.

It prints direct to the card by dye-sublimation at 300 dpi, edge to edge, at up to 225 full-color YMCKO cards per hour or 164 dual-sided YMCKOK cards per hour, and up to 1,000 monochrome cards per hour. Color ribbons hold 500 images to match the 500-card hopper and each comes with a fresh cleaning roller. The laminator heats directly with no warm-up and applies 0.6 or 1.0 mil clear or holographic patches, 500 per roll, at 19 seconds per card; with lamination you can also run the 1,000-card YMC ribbon. The input hopper spreads the weight of the card stack so cards are not scratched as they feed, and every station has its own physical lock and Kensington slot.

This is the dual-sided laminating configuration with a 500-card output hopper. Add magnetic stripe or contactless encoding to the printer module from the upgrades in the buy box; contact chip encoding and card scanning are hybrid flipper options, so ask us about those. IDP's SMART IDesigner card design software is included as a free Windows download. For Mac, or for database-driven badging and more advanced layouts, ID-ALL is the step up. IDP backs the SMART-70 with a 3-year depot warranty.

How does the SMART-70's modular design work?

Each part of a SMART-70 system is its own station: input hopper, printer, hybrid flipper, laminator and output hopper. Stations line up with an alignment plate, and each has its own power supply and a communication cable to the next. IDP's part codes spell out the build: I input hopper, P printer, F flipper (dual-sided), L laminator, S exit box, O 500-card output hopper. IPFLO, for example, is input hopper, printer, flipper, laminator and output hopper.

Can I add a flipper, laminator or output hopper later?

Yes. IDP designed the SMART-70 so the end user can add stations with no tools, and the printer, flipper, laminator and hopper modules are sold individually. Start with a single-sided printer and add a flipper for dual-sided printing, a laminator, or a 500-card output hopper when your volume grows. Ask us which module fits your setup.

Which ribbons does the SMART-70 use?

The main color ribbon is 659111 YMCKO (500 cards). Dual-sided systems can use 659113 YMCKOK for full color on the front and resin black on the back. There is also 659114 YMCFKO with a UV panel, 659112 half-panel ymcKO (1,000 cards, special order), 659119 KO, and resin monochrome ribbons in black, white, metallic silver and gold, blue, red and scratch-off (3,000 cards). The 659243 YMC ribbon (1,000 cards) has no black or overlay panel, so it must be laminated or used with 659119 KO in a second printer. Every SMART-70 ribbon comes with a fresh cleaning roller.

How fast is it?

IDP rates the SMART-70 printer module at up to 225 cards per hour in YMCKO full color (max. 16 seconds per card), up to 164 per hour with YMCKOK dual-sided, and up to 1,000 per hour in monochrome. Lamination runs at 19 seconds per card for single-sided lamination.

What encoding options are available?

Magnetic stripe (ISO 7811 tracks 1-3, HiCo/LoCo, JIS II, 651160) and 13.56 MHz contactless (MIFARE, ISO 14443 A/B, ISO 15693, DESFire, iCLASS, 651161) encoders install in the printer module; add them from the upgrades in the buy box. Contact smart card encoding and dual-sided card scanning are hybrid flipper options that IDP supplies as flipper modules with the option installed, so ask us about those.

Can the SMART-70 laminate?

Yes, on systems with a laminator module (part codes with L). It uses direct heating with no warm-up and applies clear or holographic patch film, 0.6 or 1.0 mil, 500 patches per roll to match the 500-card hopper. The laminator module is single-sided. IDP's standard films are 659123 clear, 659121 Globe Flags and 659S34-7 Secure Globe holograms.

Does the SMART-70 work with a Mac, and what software is included?

IDP's current SMART-70 driver is for Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), and IDP also publishes macOS and Linux drivers. Every SMART printer includes IDP's free SMART IDesigner card design software, which is Windows only. On a Mac, or for database-driven badging, use ID-ALL, which supports IDP SMART printers on Windows and Mac.

What warranty does the SMART-70 carry?

IDP covers the SMART-70 with a 3-year depot warranty on the printer, laminator, encoders and parts, and 2 years on the print head. Specialist ID is an authorized IDP dealer.
