The Evolis Primacy 2 is the flagship of Evolis direct-to-card printing: a fast, field-proven desktop ID card printer for medium and large runs. It prints edge-to-edge at 300 dpi, up to 235 color or 1,000 monochrome cards per hour, from a 100-card hopper with low-level detection, and accepts cards from 10 to 50 mil thick.
Magnetic stripe encoding built in
This configuration writes ISO 7811 magnetic stripes, tracks 1, 2 and 3, high- or low-coercivity, inline as each card prints, so badges come out ready to swipe.
Contact and contactless encoding built in
This configuration includes the factory-installed HID OMNIKEY 5122 dual encoder. It personalizes contact smart cards and 13.56 MHz contactless credentials (ISO 14443 A/B, MIFARE, DESFire) inline with printing.
Built for daily production
The Primacy 2 pairs a drop-in ribbon cassette with automatic ribbon identification, graphical alerts for cleaning and low supplies, an operator-replaceable print head, and Digital Erasing that clears sensitive information from printer memory. It supports the standard High Trust ribbon range and the Easy4pro cardboard-cassette range that cuts plastic waste, and the YMCKOO ribbon adds laminate-level front-side durability without a laminator.
Software included
Every Primacy 2 ships with an ID-ALL Starter Edition license for designing and printing badges on Windows and macOS, plus Evolis Premium Suite 2 drivers with Windows certification and the Evolis Print Service app for printing from Android and iOS. Upgrades to higher ID-ALL editions are sold separately, and a free SDK supports custom integrations.
Specialist ID is an authorized Evolis dealer. The Primacy 2 carries a 3-year printer warranty and a 3-year warranty on the original print head when genuine Evolis High Trust ribbons are used.

Can a single-sided Primacy 2 be upgraded to dual-sided?
Yes. The PMY2-KTDS activation kit upgrades a single-sided Primacy 2 to dual-sided printing by an RFID key, with no hardware swap. Dual-sided configurations print the front and back of each card automatically.
Which ribbons does the Primacy 2 use?
The Primacy 2 uses Evolis High Trust ribbons made for the Zenius 2 and Primacy 2 generation, in both the standard cassette range and the Easy4pro cardboard-cassette range (for example R5F208A100 YMCKO, 300 prints). Ribbons for the original Primacy do not fit. Dual-sided ribbons such as YMCKO-K apply color to the front and black to the back; they are for dual-sided configurations. See Compatible Supplies below for the exact list.
How does lamination work on the Primacy 2?
The Evolis Card Lamination Module (CLM) connects to the Primacy 2 over infrared and laminates one or both card sides with clear or holographic patches and varnishes as part of the same inline job, at up to 215 laminated single-sided cards per hour. Choose a Lamination configuration with the selector above, or add the module (S10212) to a printer you already own. Laminated configurations should run composite PVC/PET cards, since all-PVC cards can warp under laminator heat.
What encoding options are available?
Factory configurations cover ISO magnetic stripe encoding and a range of smart card encoders: Evolis Elyctis Smart (contact), Elyctis Dual (contact + contactless), OMNIKEY 5122 (contact + contactless), SpringCard Crazy Writer HSP (contactless), Elatec TWN4 MULTITECH 2 (multi-frequency NFC), and Elyctis Contactless. Options can be combined with magnetic stripe encoding, and most kits are also field-installable.
What software comes with the Primacy 2?
Every Primacy 2 includes a license for ID-ALL Starter Edition badge design software (Windows and macOS), Evolis Premium Suite 2 drivers, and the Evolis Print Service app for printing from Android and iOS devices. Upgrades to higher ID-ALL editions are sold separately.
What is the YMCKOO ribbon and why would I use it?
The YMCKOO ribbon adds a second overlay panel on the card front, roughly tripling abrasion resistance compared with standard YMCKO. It is a way to get laminate-level front-side durability without a lamination module.
What warranty does the Primacy 2 carry?
Evolis covers the Primacy 2 with a 3-year printer warranty and a 3-year warranty on the original print head, conditioned on the use of genuine Evolis High Trust ribbons. The CLM lamination module carries its own 3-year warranty, and 1-year extensions are available for both.
What cards does the Primacy 2 accept?
ISO CR-80 cards from 10 to 50 mil (0.25 to 1.25 mm): PVC and composite PVC for color printing, plus PET, paper, and rewritable cards with the matching monochrome ribbon. Lamination configurations run 30 mil composite PVC/PET cards.
