Overview

About this tag

The HID iCLASS Tag 2060 is a coin-sized 13.56 MHz smart credential with an adhesive back. It is 1.285 inches across, weighs a gram, and sticks to an existing badge, card or device — which turns whatever your staff already carry into an iCLASS credential without reissuing anything.

That is what it is for. If you are moving off Wiegand, magnetic stripe or barium ferrite and the old badges still work for everything else — the photo, the name, the visual check at reception — a tag lets you add the new technology to the credential in circulation instead of printing a whole new population. Staff keep their badge, you get 13.56 MHz on the readers, and the transition happens without a reissue project. It is also the cheapest way to put iCLASS on something that is not a badge at all: a phone case, a tool, a piece of equipment.

Read range is short by design — about an inch on most iCLASS readers — because the antenna is an inch across. That is fine for a presentation reader at a door and wrong for a long-range or vehicle application.

The tag will not stick reliably to metal. Metal detunes a 13.56 MHz antenna, so mount it on a non-metallic surface: a plastic badge, a card, a case. The shell is Lexan polycarbonate in black with HID's standard artwork, rated -40 to 158 °F.

Programming is HID's recommended pairing: a Secure Identity Object plus the standard iCLASS access control application, so the tag reads on both classic iCLASS readers and iCLASS SE / HID Signo readers. To order, give us three things: your card format, your facility or site code, and the starting card number. They are printed on the box your current credentials came in, or on your original HID paperwork.

For a 125 kHz version of the same idea, see the HID MicroProx 1391.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

What is an adhesive tag actually for?
Adding a technology to credentials that are already in circulation. If you are migrating off Wiegand, magnetic stripe or barium ferrite and the existing badges still serve their other purposes - photo, name, visual check - a tag stuck to the back adds 13.56 MHz iCLASS without printing a new population of cards. It is also the cheapest way to put iCLASS on something that is not a badge, such as a phone case or a piece of equipment.
Will it stick to metal?
It will stick, but it will not read reliably. Metal detunes a 13.56 MHz antenna. Mount the tag on a non-metallic surface - a plastic badge, a card, a case.
What is the read range?
About an inch (2.5 cm) on R10, R30/RW300 and R40/RW400 readers, and 1.0 to 1.5 in on RK40/RWK400. The antenna is only an inch across, so the range is short by design. That suits a presentation reader at a door and rules out long-range or vehicle applications.
Which readers will it work on?
Both generations. The recommended programming is a Secure Identity Object plus the standard iCLASS access control application, so the tag reads on classic iCLASS readers and on iCLASS SE and HID Signo readers.
What is the minimum order and how are quantities counted?
The minimum is 100 tags in increments of 100. Every run is made to order and encoded to your exact specification.
