Overview

About this card

The HID iCLASS SE 3050 is the composite version of the iCLASS SE 3000. Same 13.56 MHz chip, same 2k bits (256 bytes) of read/write memory, same Secure Identity Object programming — the difference is the body. Instead of solid PVC it is a PVC/PET composite, and that is what lets it survive a hot printer.

This is the card to choose if you print on a retransfer (high definition) printer or a laminating printer. Those printers apply heat to bond the image or the laminate to the card, and a straight PVC card warps under it. Composite cards are built to take it, and they last longer in a lanyard as well. If you print direct-to-card on a standard dye-sublimation printer, the plain PVC 3000 is the cheaper card and does the job.

SIO is the encoding. It wraps the credential number in its own layer of encryption and authentication, so the card is bound to the platform rather than to a single reader technology. Cards programmed this way work on iCLASS SE and HID Signo readers. Note that an SE card is not available with the legacy iCLASS programming — if you have older standard iCLASS readers to serve, the iCLASS 2100 with SIO plus the standard iCLASS application is the composite card that spans both.

To order programmed cards, give us three things: your card format, your facility or site code, and the starting card number. They are printed on the box your current cards came in, or on your original HID paperwork. We encode every card in the run in sequence from your start number.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the composite 3050 or the plain PVC 3000?
It depends on your printer. If you print on a retransfer (high definition) printer or a laminating printer, choose the composite 3050 - those printers apply heat to bond the image or laminate, and a straight PVC card warps under it. If you print direct-to-card on a standard dye-sublimation printer, the 3000 does the same job for less. Composite cards also last longer in daily lanyard use.
Is the chip any different from the 3000?
No. Same 13.56 MHz iCLASS SE chip, same 2k bits of memory, same Secure Identity Object programming. Only the card body is different.
Will an SE card work on my older iCLASS readers?
Not if those readers only understand the legacy iCLASS access control application, because SE cards are not offered with it. If you have to serve both older standard iCLASS readers and newer ones, the iCLASS 2100 programmed with SIO plus the standard iCLASS application is the composite card that spans both. SE cards work on iCLASS SE and HID Signo readers.
What do I need to provide to order programmed cards?
Three things: your card format, your facility or site code, and the starting card number. They are printed on the box your current cards came in, or on your original HID paperwork. We encode every card in the run in sequence from your start number.
What is the minimum order and how are quantities counted?
The minimum is 100 cards in increments of 100. Custom printed artwork raises the minimum to 500. Every run is made to order and encoded to your exact specification.
