The Entrust Sigma DS2 is the next generation of direct-to-card printing — a dual-sided ID card printer that prints the front and back of each card automatically, no manual flipping, with the speed for medium- to high-volume issuance and a cloud-first design rated among the most user-friendly issuance systems anywhere. About the HID Omnikey encoder in this configuration

This configuration includes the factory-installed HID Omnikey smart card encoder (kit 531237-001), built into the printer. It personalizes contactless credentials — HID iCLASS, iCLASS SE, and Seos, HID Prox, plus MIFARE and MIFARE DESFire — making it the natural choice when your badges double as door keys on an HID access control system. On the DS2 it is a single-wire encoder: encoding data travels through the printer’s own USB or Ethernet connection, with no separate reader cable to run — ideal for networked and remote issuance. Choose the Identiv or Duali option instead if you also need to encode contact chip cards (the gold-pad chips you insert).

Magnetic stripe encoding built in

This configuration writes ISO 7811 magnetic stripes — tracks 1, 2 and 3, high- or low-coercivity — inline as each card prints, so badges come out of the printer ready to swipe.

Inline dual-side lamination

This configuration adds the dual-side Sigma CLM lamination module (531048-002), which applies tamper-evident overlays to both the front and back of each card as it prints — full protection for credentials that take wear on both sides. Lamination is the difference between a badge that lasts months and a credential that lasts years: overlays guard the printed image against abrasion, fading, and everyday wear, and any attempt to peel or alter them leaves visible evidence. Load clear full-card or patch laminates, UV-fluorescent or holographic security laminates, or economical topcoat — and run different materials on the front and back if you choose.

Secure by design

The Sigma platform treats the printer as a trusted IoT device: Secure Boot blocks tampered firmware at power-up, a Trusted Platform Module holds the printer’s own TLS certificates, every connection to your issuance software is encrypted, and no cardholder data remains in the printer after the card prints. Add UV fluorescent or luster security ribbons for visible and covert card authentication without extra hardware.

Cloud, on-premises, or pay-as-you-print

Drive the DS2 with Entrust Adaptive Issuance Instant ID software — available as an additional purchase, on your network or in the cloud, including simultaneous issuance of a physical card and a digital mobile flashpass. Prefer not to buy a software license? Instant ID as a Service ribbons include the cloud software with every ribbon, so you pay only as you print. A standard Windows driver covers third-party badging software.
